Everyting I Always Wanted to Tell You

Object frame with hair and paper

Berlin, DE
2023

With this work, the artist remembers her grandparents, Lisa and Hrihohyi. What have they experienced? The Holodomor, the artificial famine; the German occupation; and then the Soviet era. Where did they come from? What was their childhood like? What did they achieve, and what did they lose? What dreams did they have? What loved ones did they love? Nadia Kaabi-Linke has many questions for her grandparents, but she can’t remember them ever talking about these topics among themselves.

Had they become so consumed by their daily lives that such important questions seemed meaningless? Or did they reach a point, after everything they had experienced together, where they no longer needed to talk about it in order to understand each other? They kept all these traumas and dreams in their hearts.
